24 Hour Read-a-thon Strikes Again!

The 24 Hour Read-a-thon is happening in a few days! I am posting early so I wont have to take time out of reading to set it up on Saturday!

I will keep updating this post.

I woke up on time, this morning!

8:06 - 9:31 Aisling: Guardian: Book 1 by Carole Cummings 1 - 157.

Lets see if there is a mini-challenge up.

Introductory Questionnaire
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Connecticut, USA.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Aisling Book 2. Just received it from amazon yesterday.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
My Baked Penne.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I love to crochet.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?
I won't spend extra time listening to audiobooks. As soon as I finish the Mini-challenge, the audio book is being paused.

I'm going to put in an audiobook so I can finish eating my Cheerios.

9:45 - 9:55 White Knight (Audio) by Jim Butcher 135 - 142.

10:00 - 11:11 Aisling: Guardian 158 - 255

Kept getting distracted. Couldn't read as fast as I usually do. This waking up at 8am bites.

Mini challenge time.

Hour Three - Book Puzzle:

11:30. Time to get back to my book. Hope I can concentrate better this time.

11:30 - 12:22 Aisling: Guardian 255 - 323. Finished.

Hour Four - Turn to a Page:
"I would rather read than prove those papers a forgery any day!"

Hour Five - Book Sentence:

My Fair Captain Snared The Vampire's Heart

12:54, I'm going to find something for lunch.

Hour Six - Book Appetit:

Aisling Book 1, Guardian by Carole Cummings.

First I would strew some hay on the doorstep, put two fake horse stakes in the yard, (the kind to wrap your horse's rein's around so he won't run off) and decorate my place like an ye olde inn. I would serve stew, rolls, cheese, beef jerky, rainbow colored pudding and ale in old fashioned mugs.

If anyone is confused about the rainbow pudding, it is because the two main characters are gay.

1:16 Just finished my kielbasa. Time for Aisling book 2! I'm so excited.

1:20 - 2:27 Aisling Book 2: Dream by Carole Cummings 1 - 104.

Hour Seven - Find a Poem:

He the Dreamer
He the Guardian
One Calls
The other Answers.
Father gave the world the Dreamer
Mother gave the Dreamer the Guardian
The Dreamer raised on lies
The Guardian wrenched from his fate
Till the pull drew each other
To dance in Mother's green womb.

2:42. Back to my book.

2:42 - 4:02 Aisling Book 2: Dream 104 - 232

Hour Nine - Weird Sisters:

Me and my friend Linda have the same tastes in books. She lives in the Bahamas while I live in Connecticut, USA. We both like a series and we both buy them and discuss them, not that we read them at the same time or anything.

Unfortunately, I'm the only one in my family who reads. No one else really understands my love of books.

Thanks for the cheers, everyone.

4:24 Back to my book.

4:24 - 5:24 Aisling Book 2: Dream 232 - 342

Hour Ten - E-book Survey

Nothing to post, it was a survey.

5:42 Back to my book.

Thanks, Lagie-dear. Fixed that link.

5:42 - 6:22 Aisling Book 2: Dream 342 - 408 Finished.

6:31 I'm gunna grab my next book. Not sure what its going to be yet.

6:35 - 7:05 Read 10 pages of BZKR by Michael Grant. Couldn't get into it. Put it down and picked up Dark of the Moon by Tracy Barrett 1 - 41.

Hour 12 - Fictionally Inclined

I only knew two of the answers. Number 8 and number 12.

7:19. Back to my book.

7:20 - 8:30 Moon Called by Patricia Briggs 1 - 108.

MidEvent Survey

1) How are you doing? Sleepy? Are your eyes tired?
Nope. I'm doing well.
2) What have you finished reading?
Aisling books 1 and 2.
3) What is your favorite read so far?
Aisling book 2.
4) What about your favorite snacks?
Angel Food cake.
5) Have you found any new blogs through the readathon? If so, give them some love! No. I'm not really a blog person.

8:38 I'm going to go eat. I'm hungry.

I cooked dinner. It's in the oven.

9:45 going back to my book.

9:45 - 10:00 Moon Called 108 - 127.

I've been reading the replies on my Mini-challenge. *big grin*

Night, Lagie-dear! You weird sister you! (That's odd, considering our conversation last night too.)

10:33 Going back to my book.

10:33 - 11:41 Moon Called 127 - 251

Hour 16 - Rereading:

I am constantly rereading books I love. Right now I am rereading the Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I love this series because she's a lone coyote shapeshifter in world with bigger and meaner things than she and she always manages to pull through. I also like the fact that while there is tension between her and the Alpha of the wolf pack, they don't actually get together till book 3, and then its all screwed up and not lovey-dovey perfect.

Mercedes Thompson series

12:22 Back to reading.

12:22 - 1:40 Moon Called 251 - 317 Finished.
Iron Kissed by Patrica Briggs 1 - 73.

I am having issues with my comp and my internet. Had to shut down my comp twice in the past 15 mins.

I guess I'll see what the next mini-challenge is.

Hour 18 - Me and My Book:

With my horrible looking hair.

With that done.

2:14 Back to my book.

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone!

2:15 - 4:10 Iron Kissed 73 - 287 Finished.

Hour 20 - Culinary Catastrophe :
I like this mini-challenge, made me laugh.

I've chosen to toss Sloppy Joe Burritos. They stay all in one piece as they sail through the air but as soon as they hit some poor unsuspecting victim it's Sloppy Joe Carnage.

4:26 Time for my next book.

4:26 - 5:35 River Marked by Patricia Briggs 1 - 128.

Hour 21 - Read-A-Thon-A-Crostic:

Rustic
Idols
Vicariously

Reality

Moments

Everyone’s
Doubts

Hour 23 - Mad Lib

1. A noun from page one of the text you are reading.

folio
2. An adjective to describe the cover of your book.
dark
3. Your name or the name of a character.
Brayden
4. A verb found on page 23 of your book

lumpy absurd
9. Another verb found at the bottom of page 100 (or the nearest page with text on it).
avoid
10. The longest time period it has ever taken you to read a book.
3 months.

Now to see what all that makes.

This folio is dark! Brayden has never snorted so much.

The teenager I'm currently imagining is lumpy and absurd.

When this is over, I will avoid for three months.

That was fun! *laughs* I've always loved Mad Libs.

Yes, it took me three months to finish a book. I didn't really like it, but I promised a friend I would read it. I finally finished it but... it took 3 months.

6:25 Back to my book.

6:25 - 7:26 River Marked 128 - 219

7:30 back to my book.

I read past my time. But I really wanted to finish the book and I did.

24 Hour Read-a-thon

It's that time again! The 24 Hour Read-a-thon! I am setting this up a day or so early so I wont have to take the time to do it on Saturday!

I will keep updating this post.

I woke up 2 hours late. As soon as I saw the time, I grabbed my first book.

10:21 to 12:10: Poison Study, pages 1 to 206.

I got too hungry to keep reading. Going to eat and do the mini-challenge.

Hour Three: Collaborative Fiction Alright, I commented in her blog but it didn't show up. "Maybe they were going to poison him, she knew all about poison. Perhaps she could taste all his food like she did for the Commander."

Hour Four: Book Puzzle
Spy Glass

Hour Five: Oldies but Goodies My favorite classic, now that is a hard one. I always liked Great Expectations and The Three Musketeers but no, my favorite has to be Little Women. Even back then Jo was a strong woman, knew her own mind and what she wanted and when she didn't get it, she stayed strong, moved on. I figured if Jo could do it, I could too.

My post isn't showing there either! What's up? *growls* Well, my cereal is done and I've done 3 mini-challenges... or tried too rather.

12:44, back to my book.

12:44 - 1:22: Poison Study pages 207 - 278.

Time for a Mini-Challenge.

Hour Six: Book Boyfriend Matchmaker Not much I can post here as it was a poll. I hope I got them all right.

1:38, back to my book.

1:38 - 2:40 Poison Study 279 - 409. Finished.

Time for another mini-challenge. Or not since I don't have a phone book and I am unwilling to spend my time folding paper wrong instead of reading, specially with my 2 hour delay.

2:46, off to find another book.

2:55pm, I actually decided to have lunch and listen to a book on cd. I have the actual book with me, so I know how many pages I've listened to.

Hour Eight: Book Club Recommendations I don't really like "Book Club" type books, at least not the type of books my library book club has been reading
Though if it was for a young adult book club I would recommend Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. A man born a woman and struggling to become the man she should have been. Another woman tortured and raped and managing to kill her abuser and survive and find love.

I'm still eating and listening to my book on cd. I have a headache and am hoping my Excedrin will kick in soon.

2:55 - 3:27 Host (book on CD) 111 - 122.

3:27, back to reading. I know I said last time that its better to read a series but I've read the Study Series so many times. I think I'm going to read something new. Hopefully I can stay awake then.

3:27 - 4:26 The World Above pages 1 - 126

Mini-Challenge time.

Hour Nine: In Other Words I give up. The meds are working, my headache mostly gone, but I was never any good at subtle things. If it isn't obvious like the first one, I won't get it.

4:26 - 4:42 The Host, Book on CD 122 - 127

4:42. Back to my book.

4:42 - 5:09 The World Above pages 127 - 201 Finished

Another mini-challenge while listening to Host.

Hour Ten: Recreate the Cover
Photobucket
It is suppose to be a bean stalk. Made out of crocheted green yarn, cardboard and a tissue. Aaaand this one is not showing up on their blog either. And I worked so hard on this one too.

5:09 - 5:52 The Host (Book on CD) pages 127 - 143.

5:52 Back to reading another book. Not sure which one.

Thanks for all the comments!

I realized I only had a few minutes till hour 11 so I figured I'd continue to listen to Host while waiting for the next hour and the next mini-challenge.

Hour 11: Bookish Crossword Puzzle Yet another Mini-Challenge I can't do. Ok, I could do it but I loathe crosswords.

5:52 - 6:09 Host (Book on CD) 143 - 149

6:09 Back to reading.

6:09 - 7:18 Winter's Child pages 1 - 178 Finished.

Hour 12
Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now?

2. How many books have you read so far? 3
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Not sure. Maybe Blink and Caution.
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Yes, I took work off and asked that no one call me.
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Only one and its happening right now.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? That I woke up 2 hours late./
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Don't make me wake up at 8am again.
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? Go to sleep very very early.
9. Are you getting tired yet? Yes.
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Listen to a book on CD while you do the Mini-Challenges. That way you don't waste the time you are using for the mini-challenges. And yes, I can type and listen at the same time. It helps that I've read the book about 12 times.

Replies to comments.
Sorry, Reading Chick, it is not Detective Glass though you got the second part correct.
April, I like the poem, thank you!
Lemmy, Yes, I am having fun!
Florinda, the headache is pretty much gone. Yay.
Shaunie, Azuki, I've read Host so many times. It is at least 5 times better than Twilight Series.
Lagie, if you think you know the answer to the puzzle, feel free to make a guess.

Hour Thirteen Book Reading Habits
I read laying down in my bed, on my side. I usually lay on my right side and hold the book in my right hand. I do turn over on the other side when my right side gets numb.

My cat will usually climb on me and lay down on the side I'm not laying on. I usually won't notice him.

I usually loose track of time when I read.

I usually read late at night, like 2am.

That was 5 habits. The first 2 are just together. And this one didn't show up either. I am getting kind of mad that they aren't showing up.

7:18 - 8:22 Host (Book on CD) 149 - 173

8:22, going to find another book.

8:22 - 8:28. Blink And Caution pages 1 - 7. It was all "you do this, you do that." Couldn't stand it.

8:28 to 9:36 Liar Pages 1 to 167.

Hour Fourteen Book Sentence
The Protector Promises The Shadow Queen Eternal Love.
Photobucket

Hour Fifteen Character Theme Song
Yelena Zaltana from The Study Trilogy. That Girl Is Poison by Bell Biv Davoe

9:36 - 10:12 The Host (Book on CD) 173 to 184

10:36 10:47 The Host (Book on CD) 184 to 190

Realized I was hungry so I turned the cd back on and got some cereal. And then I decided I didn't want to climb into bed just after eating so I listened until that CD was over while I did a bit of crocheting.

10:50 - 11:48 The Host (Book on CD)190 - 211.

Gunna do the Mini - Challenge for this hour.

Hour Sixteen Story Sequel Summary

Gone Native, Book 2 of The Host by Stephanie Meyer.

Wanda is now integrated into the secret cache of humans living in the desert. She has also discovered another Soul who has gone native, living with another pack of humans. Both Wanda and Burns wonder if there are more Souls out there.

Ian, who loves Wanda, accepting her whole self, feels like he is losing her to this search. Will she get caught? Will Burns give her up to save himself if he is caught? The questions, the horrors that Ian imagines, losing his love to another world, is becoming unbearable.

Are there any other souls who have gone native? Will Wanda and Burns give up their search? How many humans are left? Can Ian's and Wanda's love span worlds? Will it have to?

I guess I will stay on the comp long enough to do the next hours Mini-Challenge as well.

I'm doing pretty good, Margaret. I think I caught my second wind. I'm just wondering if I should stop at 8am, like my timezone says, or attempt to continue on till 10, when I actually started reading.

Ok, it took me a few mins to realize that Hour 16 is the one we are on now. I kept waiting for the main page to update.

11:52 - 12:17 The Host (Book on CD) 211 - 220.

Alright, now I really am going back to my book.

12:17 - 1:33 Liar 167 - 384. Finished.

Going to do a Mini-Challenge.

Turns out I was correct and we were on Hour 17, it had just been delayed.

Hour Seventeen Classic/Paranormal Tome

Expectastein

A mix of Frankenstein and Great Expectations.

Pip is a young orphaned boy who is brought in to an old woman's house to be a playmate to the young lady she has just adopted. But she actually made Estelle out of the parts of young girls she has paid the gravedigger to dig up for her. Pip must rescue himself from the clutches of the mad woman and save the horrible but gentle creature she has created.

Hour Eighteen is the same mini-challenge as hour seventeen.

1:33 - 1:47 Host (Book on CD) 220 - 224.

1:55 Time to read.

1:55 - 2:10 Fat Hoochie Prom Queen 1 - 23 I know I should have gotten the hint from the title but waaay to much slang. I'm only getting 5 words out of 10. I'm gunna do a Mini-Challenge and then chose another book. One that I can understand.

Hour Nineteen Character Crush

There are so many books with so many great characters.

To be completely honest, the one I would run away with is actually a horse. A magical horse. A Companion from Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series.

I would chose the grove born Companion Rolan. Not that I want to be a Queen's closest advisor but because Rolan is just awesome. The first time I read Arrows of the Queen I would close my eyes and pretend I was the Chosen One, I was the one who had magical powers and I was the one who could speak mind to mind with him. I would go any where he wanted me to go.

2:26 Time to find a book to read.

2:26 - 3:30 - One Good Knight 1 - 125

Mini Challenge Time.

Hour Twenty Movie to Book

The Tourist with Angela Jolie.

Action, mystery, humor. I so love that movie. I was on the edge of my seat. It would be awesome to get into their minds. Listening to it on a book on CD. Now that would be great.

Hour Twenty Bookish Humour I love Unshelved.

Hour Twenty-One Picturiffic A Dragon and a Princess, both who love to read, fall in love.

3:30 - 4:19 The Host (Book on CD) 225 - 2:45

Back to my book.

4:19 - 5:22 One Good Knight 125 - 254

Hour Twenty-Two Book Trailer
Fire by Kristen Cashore. A fantastic book I've read over 10 times now. It is the Prequal to Graceling.

5:22 - 5:43 The Host 245 - 250

5:43 Back to my book. I am quite enjoying it, even if I have read it before.

5:43 - 7:01 One Good Knight 254 - 400. Finished.

One more hour! I've almost made it!

Hour Twenty-Four Survey

1. Which hour was most daunting for you? 19th
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? One Good Knight by Mercedes Lackey, Host by Stephanie Meyer, Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Make sure the links work and if the posts are not showing up on someone's Blog, which happened three times to me, allow those people to post somewhere else.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? The Cheerleaders.
5. How many books did you read? 8 (Finished 5)
6. What were the names of the books you read? One Good Knight by Mercedes Lackey, Host by Stephanie Meyer, Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder, The World Above and Winters Child both by Cameron Dokey, Liar by Justine Larbalestier, Blink & Caution by Tim Wynne-Jones, Fat Hoochie Prom Queen by Nico Medina
7. Which book did you enjoy most? One Good Knight
8. Which did you enjoy least? That I finished? Liar. Confusing. The two that I didn' finish, I barely got to page 7 on one and 20 on another.
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time? Extremely likely. Reader.

7:03 - 7:25 The Host (Book on CD) 150 - 156

7:25For the last hour, I am going to read the actual book of The Host.

7:25 - 8:19 The Host 156 - 345

I am done. So Want to crawl into bed now but I have to do my times. I'm not good at math even when I've gotten a good nights sleep. *sighs*

I hope my math is correct.

10:21 to 12:10 = 109
12:44 - 1:22 = 38
1:38 - 2:40 = 58
2:55 - 10:12 = 437
10:36 10:47 = 11
10:50 - 11:48 = 58
11:52 - 1:47 = 125

Oct 9th Read-a-thon

When she hit the ground, she died.

11th Hour Mini Challenge Audio Books

1. What are you reading right now? Trickster's Queen by Tamora Pierce

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Either Fire by Kristen Cashore or one of Anne Bishop's books.
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Took work off, and asked everyone not to call me.
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? My Mom called, I told her "I told you not to call" and someone gave me a cheese egg in my game and then I got to chatting with a friend. I am gunna go back to reading my books after I finish this Survey.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? That I didn't stock up on enough food.
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Nope.
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader if you were to do this again next year? More Food.
9. Are you getting tired yet? Nope. Hungry though.
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Get books that are in a series. So much easier to switch to the next book.

Hour 14 Mini-challenge. Under the Covers

First Book: Poison Ivy by Amy Goldman Koss. On the cover was a goldfish in a bowl About a 3 bullies who get put on "trial" in social studies. I hated the ending so bad, I threw it when I finished it. Luckily it was a library book.

Second book: The Painted House by Drew Zachery. The cover was a white house and the Blurb souneded really good too. Now I like my gay-male novels, but this one was only sex. I couldn't read past page 20. Unfortunately, I bought this one for $14. *sighs*

9:20 - 10:33 Trickster's Queen 333 - 456. Finished.

Hour 15 Mini-challenge. A Wordle

10:46 - 11:19 Exile's Honor by Mercedes Lackey 1 - 47

Hour 17 Mini-challenge. Ban a Book

(First off, I looove this book)

Terrior (Beka Cooper #2) by Tamora Pierce should be banned for many reasons. First Beka Cooper talks to the dead. She must be the devil's minon.

Beka also decides to take a lover and have random acts of sex with him.

Also there is a cross-dressing gay man who goes and sings, as a very hot woman. Then he comes home and makes out with his gay lover.

Devil worship, unmartial sex and homosexuality! Our children will be be crossing dressing, magic welding gay people! We cannot allow this!

12:15 - 1:10 Exile's Honor 48 - 123

Hour 17 Mini-challenge. Pitch Your Book

Honor's Exile by Mercedes Lackey

A warrior is about to be burned alive by his country's religion, and a magical horse rescues him from the flames and brings him to his country's enemies. He is then told that everything he learned about his enemies were lies, and that they need him, badly to protect their own country. He then becomes bodyguard to the princess and saves both her life and the king's.

The one I posted on her blog has typos. I am sorry! I am starting to get tired.

1:23am. Back to my book.

1:23 - 2:02 Exile's Honor 124 - 207

19th Hour Mini-Challenge. Sadly, I am not going to be doing this one, cause she wants us to read a non-fiction book. I don't even think I own a non-fiction book.

2:06 Back to reading!

2:06 - 2:18 Exile's Honor 208 - 230

2:20 - 3:02 Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling 264 - 351

Exile's Honor is a really good book, but the main character speaks like Yoda. Backwards. And at 2am. I couldn't handle it any more, so I picked up "Luck in the Shadows" which I started at the Doctor's Office last week.

Hour 20 Mini-challenge. Biographies.

Questionnaire:
1. Have you ever read a memoir/true story. Yes.

2. If so, what was the title/author? I did read Anne Frank, Helen Keller and Prudence Crandall and Louis Braille.

3. What what it about? The one about Prudence Crandall was how she was running a school for white females and she shut it down and then opened one for black females and she was very disliked for doing so.

4. Did you like it? Would you recommend it? I did. And yes.

5. How many have you read? 6 or 7

6. Why or what made you want to read it? I checked it in and saw it was about a town I used to live in.

7. What was the saddest/scariest one you read? The one about Prudence Crandall. The Forbidden Schoolhouse: The True and Dramatic Story of Prudence Crandall and Her Students.

8. Did it have a 'happy ending'? Of a sorts. She was like 80 or so, when CT asked if she would like some award for doing what she did.

9. When choosing a memoir/true story, do you look for a certain kind? I normally don't like them. I only read the Prudence Crandall one because I checked it in at work and it looked interesting. The others I had to for school.

10. Bonus question(s-it's in parts:) for my giveaway:
Have you read 3 or more memoirs/true stories?
Yes.
Title/Author,
The True Story of Anne Frank by Anne Frank - Yes, I would recommend.
The Forbidden Schoolhouse: The True and Dramatic Story of Prudence Crandall and Her Students by Suzanne Jurmain - Yes I would recommend.
Helen Keller: A Life by Dorothy Herrmann - can't really remember. I was about 15

If you were to win the giveaway prize, would you want the book - Yes.

Nawat Crow, from The Trickster Duet by Tamora Pierce.

He was a crow that became a man, and fell in love in Ally, and she with him.

They were first introduced in "The Immortal's Quartet" and showed up again, towards the end of Trickster's Queen.

24-hour Read-a-thon

Hello,

Photo of a big bunny rabbit!

Not entirely sure how to do this. Maybe I will keep just updating this page. That will work.

I set my alarm for 8am, and when it beeped, I turned it off. Idiot me. My friend called me bout and hour later and woke me up. I saw the time, hung up with her and started reading at exactly:

9:12am-Somebody Killed his Editor by Josh Lanyon - 272 Pages (start page 70)
11:48am-The Maze Runner by James Dishner, stopped at page 120. (Started on page 32)
12:55 Decided to update and see if I can locate any mini-challenges.

1:15 Found Barts Mini-Challenge. I tried to take a picture of my entry, but my computer wont acknowalge the memory card, nor the camera. I hope putting them from Amazon will work instead.

Well nevermind spent all that time looking for pictures on Amazon, the contest is over. I do so hate my computer.

Well tried another mini-challenge. 1:00 Challenge. Someone jumped infront of me while I was posting, so now my part of the story doesnt really make sense, but hey, its a game. Maybe the challenger will notice that it happened and doesn't like toss my entry.

2:09 time to get back to reading.

2:15-3:38pm -Stopped reading Lucky on Page 93. (Started on page 1)

Going to do the 8th hour Challenge. Write a drabble.

Forgetting myself for a while this is why I read. Being someone else, feeling their joy, thier pain, their fears. I can be a hero saving the world. I can be a gay teen stuggling to find his place in the world. I can be a cat trying to save his family. I can be a street-rat who discovers she has magic. Books open worlds I will never see. Dragons, magic and evil. Fairies, swords and heros. Neverending love and unending pain I see it all, I feel it all. Then I loose it all when I close the book.

Hour Nine. Voting for Barts Title Sentance thing that I couldnt do.

I voted for: The King of Attolia kidnapped one corpse too many! **This lost. Winner was 18%, this one was 15%**

Made me laugh. And The King of Attolia is my favorite book in that series.

Ok. 4:11. Time to go back to my reading.

Read for about 5 mins, got feed up with the book. It has all this England-English Lingo that I dont understand, which is why Ive only gotten to page 93. I decided to make myself lunch and listen to the last cd of "The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima. Listened to it from 4:20-5:30..

Then did the: 10th Hour challenge.

2nd 10th hour challenge. Relate Memories of reading as a child and link to Reading is Fundemental.

As a child, I grew up in a grouphome with 7 other girls and 4 staff round the clock. As you can imagin, in a home with 8 girls, and 4 ever-changing staff, getting alone time was tough. So I read. I found that if I was reading and another girl came in my room, she'd, 75% of the time, leave me alone. And, if I was reading alone in my room, when the rest of the girls would get into trouble by the staff, I didnt, cause I wasnt there.
Getting lost in a book was quite literal for me. I'd forget I hadnt been adopted yet, I'd forget I hadnt seen my sister in over a year, I'd just forget me and become the charecters. I find that true, even now.

14th hour Challenge

Bookish Movies. (I tried to post a comment twice on her page but it won't go through. Only shows one comment and it isnt mine)

Someone is Watching by Mark. A. Roeder.

Ethan is a teenager who is on the wrestling team. He is also gay. He is in love with his bestfriend but tries to hide it. When he finially tells his best friend he is in love with him, his best friend tells him he understands *but he isnt gay* and makes Ethan cry. Ethan has been confessing his problems to a friend of his who works on his Uncle's farm with him. That friend sort-of confesses that he has been in love with Ethan all this time and Ethan realizes he loves him too.

Throught the story, Ethan has been getting threatening letters in his locker and, at the end of the wrestling season, the person reveals himself and says if Ethan doesnt lose the wrestling match, he is going to tell the whole school, Ethan is gay.

I would love for Taylor Lautner to play Ethan. Ethan is strong, from working on a farm and from wrestling. He is also dark from being in the son all the time. I mostly think Taylor would be good as Ethan is because I want to see him kiss another boy!
(BAD ME)

Alrighty, 9:31, time to go back to reading.

9:31 - 10pm - Shalador's Lady

Stopped, made myself dinner.

Around 10:30-11:40, Listened The Taking by Dean Koontz. (First CD)
11:40-1:02 - Shalador's Lady. (On page 189.)

Hour 17 Challenge

Early Favorites.

The First book I remember loving was "The First Test" by Tamora Pierce.

I got that book when my therapist took me to a library at lunch when I was 9. Took me a while to pick, I could only get 1, and I kept going back to the same book.

I finially took it out and, as I was the only girl who slept downstairs, I got to to read it at night. It was about Alanna, a noble girl who didnt want to be a lady, so she switched places with her twin brother and went to become a knight. She disguised herself as a boy and became a page.

I finished the book dropped it facedown on my bed, went to the bathroom, came back, turned it over and started reading it again.

I had no idea the book was part of a series, I must have read that book near 1000 times by the time I was 12. When I left the school I was in, my teacher gave me the entire series. I was so estatic. I still own those books too.

Well, I was reading in my chair instead of on my bed, where I usually read, waiting for the 18th hour challenge. I just-just refreshed the page and... its nothing I can do, I am not raising money for any charities. Sorry.

So... it is now 1:13am, back to Shaldor's Lady!

1:13 - 2:20 Shalador's Lady (Page 284)

Anyways, Popcorn, then More Shalador's Lady. For those of you who havent read Anne Bishop... Why the hell not?!

She is awsome. I own all of her books except 2. (I own Pillars of the World but for some reason I dont like it, so I havent bought the rest of that series.)

Well: 2:35am, back to Shalador's Lady ("They couldnt figure out how to launch a war against a vegatable garden" LOL, Love that line!)

4:05 Taking a 2 minute break for my tea to boil, then back too book. Yay, the whistle is going off!

4:06 - 6:37 Finished Shalador's Lady (496 pages)

Gunna grab something short n sweet to finish off my last hour and half.

Friday, April 9, 2010

Alrighty, so tomorrow is the read-a-thon! YAY so excited.

Oh! For those of you who like to read gay-male fiction online, I made a new site which includes my own fiction, as well as some of my favorite fiction. SITE

So, what has happened since I last posted? Other than staying up till 6am making that site. You sure you wanna know? Okay here goes.

My Uncle (Mom's brother, 55) had a stroke two Wednesday's ago. He was really bad off and on that Thursday they moved him to UMASS (which I guess is a hospital). He didnt get any better.

Horrible Easter:
Sunday, my sister called me at 4pm crying, saying "They are taking him off the resperator and he isnt expected to live past a few breaths." She asked me to go to Carol's, our older sister who has my 2yo niece Mandy, and she would be there too. So we, the children, waited at Carol's for Mom to come home so we could be with her, comfort her. She called Carol's at 9pm-ish saying he was still holding on, we could go home.

I went to my parent's house, closer to Carol's and closer to work. Mom called me at 6:30am-ish Monday saying he had passed away an hour ago and she was coming home.

This past Tuesday, my Mom calls me at 11pm and says she is driving my grandfather, her dad, to the hospital. His legs were hurting. Turned out they found a bloodclot. He is still in there but when I called yesterday, grandma said he was doing much better.

So, horrible two weeks, as you can imagine. The wake is Monday and the Funeral Tuesday.

See, this is why I read. Escaping the real world, if only for a little bit. *sigh*

In other news... though I'm not sure my dinner would exactly be called news, I am just blatantly trying to change the subject. I have made Mac & Cheese (pretty much the extent of my culinary abilties) canned corn and Lemon Ginsing Tea(Stash Premium Tea). I like The Lemon Herbal Revive tea better but this one isnt bad.

I am still listening to "The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima, on Disc 11/13. I bought 4 new books in preporation for the Read-a-thon. Not that I needed to but it was a good excuse, teehee.

Well, I guess thats all for now. Wish me luck on the Read-a-thon! Starts at 8am. Meh, I usually dont wake up to atleast noon. Today I didnt wake up till past 5pm! Sigh, I didnt get to sleep till about 7am, that could be why.

Introduction

~Introduction~

I am Athena aka Kanaye. I dont pronounce Kanaye correctly. I say it Kuh-nay. It has NOTHING to do with Kanye West. I never even heard of him when I first chose the name and now I wish I still havent heard of him.

I work about 8-12 hours a week in a teeny-tiny library and live in a teeny-tiny apartment. I have a boyfriend, Chris and a big cat, Aladdin (aka Aladdin-kitty). I am also a tad Yaoi-obsessive. *Evil grin* For those of you who dont know what yaoi is... lucky you.

I have odd sleeping habits which is why I am now posting at 6:34AM when I haven't even gone to bed yet. I actually finished a book I was waiting for over a year for and decided to hop on the computer for a minute to check on something afore I went to sleep. I got distracted, as I often do, and now I am posting. I'm tired but not quite to that sandpaper eyelid stage.

I love to read. And I mean LOVE to read. I recently did sorta an expirement on Bookcrossing.com where I was posting all the books I read every month. By the 4th month it got too much of a hasel so I took it down. I did find out, through this expirement, that I read an average of 5 books a week (which is why posting them was such a pain). This week I hit 7 books.

I mostly read gay-male fiction and fantasy. I also read a few teens mixed in. I hate straight romance. I am just starting to get into mysteries but... Im particular about what I'll read. I tend to re-read books I like over and over and over. I have waaay too many books in my oh so tiny apartment, but then again, if I lived in a mansion I still think the space:books ratio would be about the same.

While I am not a published author (I wish) I do have a few short stories floating around the internet, all of a gay male subject. Anyone wanna know what/where they are, I'd be more than happy to post them on here. Could always use more readers. (Yes, I know, shameless plug.)

Other than reading/writing, I often play Runescape while listening to a book on cd and crocheting. I like to crochet (but hate knitting), bead, paint, make cards and bookmarks. I am currently working on a blanket for my sister to put on her recliner, so far it has taken me 40+ hours and its just a little over 4feet, 1 more foot to go. I have just started listening to Dean Koontz's Frankenstien, my 4th Dean Koontz book.

I'd be more than happy to keep going on. I kinda need to be told when to shut up. But, in this case I am way to tired to keep typing for much longer. Had to go to work for 10am yesterday, which might not seem early for some of you, but I usually don't wake up before noon at the earliest. Like today, well, now its 7:12AM and I am still awake. When i finially manage to tumble into bed, I dont plan on waking up for at least 8 hours.

I have no idea who would read this or who would even care but hey, I figure I'd introduce myself as the crazy, immature 24 year old I am, and you all will... um... I dunno... wait to read more of my oh-so-exciting life.

Well, I made this blog mostly for the 24-hour-read-athon. I guess I can use this for other stuff as well. Like ranting, yay.

Good night (or morning rather)
